Beach Pet History

"Voted Best of the Beach!"

Beach Pet Hospital, a full-service pet care facility, first opened its doors in 1947 as Beach Pet Clinic in the Oceana area of Virginia Beach.  Our practice has the honor of being the first veterinary clinic in the city of Virginia Beach! 

Dr. Ed Schoen owned Beach Pet Clinic for forty years before selling the practice to the current owner, Dr. Dennis Vrooman, in 1987.  Dr. Elizabeth Upchurch and Dr. Sean Back became partners in the practice in 2004.   The practice has re-located twice and is now in our new, state-of-the-art facility at the intersection of Great Neck Rd. and Virginia Beach Blvd.  Inside our bright, airy reception area sits the original 1940’s Xray machine used by Dr. Schoen in his forty years of practice.  We are proud to have been able to carry this little (or shall we say big!) piece of Virginia Beach veterinary history as we relocated over the years.

We take great pride in our history…  providing nearly sixty continuous years of professional, compassionate care to generations of  Virginia Beach pets.  Stop by to visit us and see why Beach Pet Hospital was voted  2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Gold Winner, “Best of the Beach”.

Meetings

Each Thursday morning from 8 - 10 am, the staff meets to discuss new ideas and suggestions and to study educational topics such as
parasites, flea control, infectious diseases, dental care, etc.
These meetings are extremely productive and greatly help to improve the quality of care and service we offer your pet.... (not to mention the yummy baked goods we get to enjoy that Dana brings in! )
