Veterinary Clinic Becomes First In Virginia to Deliver Revolutionary Stem Cell Treatments
Stemlogix, LLC
Beach Pet Hospital is the first Veterinary Clinic in Virginia to deliver revolutionary stem cell treatments to dogs suffering from osteoarthritis and joint damage. Beach Pet has treated a number of dogs suffering from osteoarthritis and joint injuries with stem cell therapy with great success. A sample of the dog’s fat tissue is extracted and processed to isolate highly potent regenerative stem cells. The cells are then injected directly into diseased and damaged joints. The whole process is done on-site and only takes about 90 minutes. This approach was developed by a company called Stemlogix and is revolutionary because the veterinarians at Beach Pet are able to produce the stem cells within their own clinic as opposed to the current most widely used method of shipping tissue to a remote laboratory, a process that takes 48 hours.Stem cells do not like to be outside of the body and by producing the stem cells on-site the viability of the cells is maintained which will increase the chances of a clinical benefit. The goal of the therapy is to improve the quality of life, provide pain relief and increase mobility of the treated patients.
Recently, the veterinarians at Beach Pet Hospital treated two canines, Jonah and Hunter. Jonah is a three year old Doberman and Hunter is a twelve year old Shepherd mix. Both dogs had substantial joint damage and arthritis and were at a point where they were not very mobile. Hunter even required leg braces. Within days of receiving the stem cell treatment, the dogs were more mobile and doing activities that they had not done in a long time such as jumping on furniture and climbing stairs. Hunter was able to limit the use of her braces. "Hunter has been very active since the stem cell procedure. She can run, go upstairs, and go on walks without her braces. I tell people she plays like a puppy now. One would never guess that Hunter is 12 years old or know that she's had two torn cruciate ligaments. She's doing great these days," said her owner Lisa. For six months Jonah was bearing no weight on his right hind leg; now he is running and playing normally and is a much happier dog.
“We are very pleased with the positive results of the stem cell treatments. They have exceeded our expectations,” said Dr. Dennis Vrooman of Beach Pet Hospital. “The cost of the on-site stem cell preparation is far less than traditional methods so it can be offered to many more clients. It also only requires one office visit with the complete treatment being done in less than two hours,” he added.
