Dr. Sean Back began his career at Beach Pet Hospital in July of 2000. In addition to a complete medical and surgical canine and feline background, he also has many years of experience in exotic animal medicine and surgery, emergency medicine and small animal geriatrics.
He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and in 1989 obtained his veterinary degree from Cornell University and is a member of the American Association of Veterinary Medicine (www.avma.org). He and his wife, Karen are parents to children, Seamus, Anderson and Roan, dogs, Frijoles and Lilly, and to Mary the tortoise, who “winters” here at Beach Pet Hospital.
He enjoys surfing and just spending time relaxing on the beach with friends and family.
Dr. Elizabeth Upchurch graduated in 1988 from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama, and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. She joined Beach Pet Hospital in 1989, and enjoys living and working near the ocean. She has studied at the University of Montreal and has lived in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. She has an American Staffordshire terrier rescue dog, Kaki, and a 7 year old Yorkshire terrier, Carly. Her cat, Crusher complete the family.
Outside of work, she has many interests including reading, gardening, kayaking, and traveling. She is continually working on perfecting her French language skills in the hopes that one day to be fluent!
Dr. Imrich holds his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and received his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine from Virginia Tech in 2006. As a member of the AVMA, his interests are held in internal medicine, cardiology, oncology and ultrasound.
He is a Virginia Beach local and Cox High School graduate. He joined the staff at Beach Pet Hospital in 2014. His hobbies include running, windsurfing, diving and most recently gardening with his wife, Trista. Dogs William and Jones complete their family.
Dr. Louise Battaglia received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech in 1990 and doctorate degree from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine again at Virginia Tech in 1994. She is also a member of the AVMA. After living and practicing in Newport News, Virginia, she returned to Virginia Beach and joined Beach Pet Hospital in 2005. She and her husband Greg, attempt to keep up with teenage son Hayden, dogs Jack and Beau, and Sam the cat, who runs the household. Dr. Battaglia enjoys running with Team Hoyt VB, skiing, paddle boarding, and spending as much time as possible on the beach with friends and family. As a Virginia Beach native, she is so happy to be able to live and raise a family in the same great city she grew up in.
Dr. Gagnon is originally from New Hampshire, but was raised in the Western Branch section of Chesapeake. She received her undergraduate and veterinary degree from Virginia Tech, and then joined the Beach Pet staff as a new graduate in 1993. Dr. Gagnon is a member of the AVMA and the District of Columbia Academy of Veterinary Medicine. She and her husband, Russ, have two children, Thea and Paul, and are parents to three cats. In her spare time she enjoys reading, vegetarian cooking, and as a movie buff likes to watch Turner classics and attend films at the Naro theater in Norfolk.
Dr. Laurence is a native of Virginia Beach. He attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate and Virginia Tech for his veterinary degree. He is a member of the AVMA and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. He joined the Beach Pet team in September, 2009 after working in small animal emergency medicine for 6 years. Dr. Laurence has many interests in veterinary medicine, including soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and emergency medicine. He and his wife, Erin have one son, Brian and one cat named, Arlo, also a dog named Owen. Dr Laurence's interest outside of veterinary medicine include spending time with his family, running and following his favorite sport teams (particularly UVA athletics and the Boston Red Sox).
Dr. Golden earned her veterinary degree from North Carolina State University. Prior to working on her veterinary degree, Dr. Golden graduated from the US Naval Academy and pursued a career in naval aviation. She is currently a Commander in the US Navy Reserves, serving over 17 years of military service as a naval flight officer in the E-2C Hawkeye. She shares a love of airplanes and animals, appreciating all creatures with a deep affection for rescue animals. Dr. Golden particularly enjoys veterinary preventive medicine, surgery and rehabilitation/acupuncture. She resides in Norfolk, Virginia with her 3 rescue dogs named Daisy K, Winston and Anji-San and 3 ninja cats named Harley Hummer, EB and Wiley.
